Though Bhajohori manas food is not expensive but goes to their restaurants is not possible many times. Because Resturants are so far from my place. I tried some of their recipes which are well reviewed on google. One or two of them I liked most like dak bungalow chicken curry and Dab chingri. Both are their restaurant’s signature dish. As a Bengali, I love all Bengali foods. So I decided to try their two signature dishes in my kitchen. After 2 or 3 times I got success, Both recipes taste same as the restaurants served.

What is Daab chingri?

Tender coconut is Called Daab In the Bengali Language. And Chingri is Prawn in Bengali. So “Daab chingri” recipe is nothing but  Prawns Cooked in a Tender Coconut Shell. Daab chingri is a very Popular Prawn recipe from the Bengali cuisine.

The idea is to cook any size of prawns or shrimps inside the green tender coconut in very slow flame. Prawn especially jumbo prawn or galda chingri is a Bengali delicacy.

which cooked in green tender coconut along with the coconut flesh is well known as Daab Chingri To Bengalis.

This recipe is so easy to make at home. It’s taste awesome. Although nowadays delicious & yummy Daab Chingri dish easily available in most of the authentic Bengali restaurants. But Today I want to show how to make Daab Chingri of Bhajohori manna restaurant style.

Because This is the most popular dish in Bhajohori manna which searches in google so many times. Even I searched many times on google but I never get any proper recipe of Bhajori mannans Daab chingri. That’s why I decided to share this recipe with you all so that it helps others who are in search of the same.

Is Bengali Daab Chingri Recipe is Similar to Malabar prawn curry Recipe?

As we all know Coconut milk or flesh always taste best with prawn or shrimps. Malabar Prawn Curry and Bengali Dabb chingri both are similar recipes but not exactly the same. Both recipes have some differences.  This Recipe belongs to Kerala India. And the other name of Kerala in India is  “God’s Own country”.

The abundance of coconut trees in Kerala caused its presence in most Malabar Cuisine. Malabar Cuisine related to the Southern Part of Konkan Coast India.

Usage of Tamarind and Curry leaves in the flavourful Malabar food Cuisine is the main difference with the Bengali Daab Chingri. Malabar prawn curry recipe has a burst of flavor. You will get all the flavors in the same dish like will get the tanginess from the tamarind, Fragrance of the curry leaves and the sweet rich taste of coconut milk.

On the other hand, Daab chingri is a dish from Kolkata, West Bengal India. Kolkata is capital of the Indian state, West Bengal. The Other name of Kolkata isCity of Joy.In the recipe of Daab Chingri, you need only three main ingredients. Like Soft Green tender coconut flesh, water from the same green tender coconut and Prawns or shrimp of any size. It is preferred to use big or Jumbo prawns or shrimps to cook the Daab Chingri. It’s truly a delicious Dish in Bengali cuisine.

Ingredients
  • 5 Pieces of Jumbo Prwns
  • 1/2 Cup Onion Paste Blends the onion with some water and make a paste
  • 1 Cup Tender coconut flesh paste
  • scoop out all the flesh from the green tender coconut properly and make a smooth paste using the coconut water
  • 2 Tbsp Any vegetable oil
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger & Garlic Paste Blends the ginger & garlic cloves with some water and make a paste easily
  • 1 Tsp Full Authentic Bengali Gram Masala
  • 1 Tsp Suger
  • 1 Tbsp Salt Ore salt as per your Taste
  • 1/2 Cups of Coconut milk
  • 1/2 Cups of Warm Water
  • Before serving Add
  • 1 Tsp Clarified Butter or Ghee
  • 1 or 2 Pinch of Authentic Bengali garam masala powder

Instructions
  1. Cut the bottom of the Tender coconut and make the bottom flat so that it can stand inside an oven,cooking vessels or any pressure cooker.
  2. Now Cut the head of the tender coconut in a bigger round shape, so that you caff the jumbo prawns easily inside the coconut shell.
  3. Now take a frying pan.
  4. make the pan heat enough.
  5. Now put 2 Tbsp oil into the frying pan.now make oil hot too.
  6. Just then put onion paste into
  7. Fry onion paste for 2 mins over the medium flame.
  8. After 2 Minutes add all jumbo prawns into the pan and sear all the jumbo prawns very well.
  9. Once the searing process done put ginger & garlic paste.,authentic bengali garm masala powder to the pan and fry with salt and suger for 5 minutes over the very low flame.
  10. Just after 5 Minutes add warm water coconut milk into the pan.
  11. Mix all the ingredients very well and cover the pan with a lid for another 5 minutes in medium to low flame.
  12. Just after 5, turn off the flame. In this stage, you will see water is just little in the pan. Now you add the tender coconut past with the prawns very well.
  13. Then after fut all the curry along with the jumbo prawn inside the green tender coconut shell and seal ithe top of the cococnut with a raw wheat flate bread dough.
If you want to do this recipe on Microwave then
  1. Put the stuffed tender coconut into a 220-degree preheated microwave for 45 minutes. once 45 minutes done remove the coconut from the oven and serve hot with some Clarified Butter or Ghee and a pinch of extra Bengali garam masala from the top.
But If you want to do this dish on gas flame then
  1. Put the stuffed tender coconut inside pressure cooker or cooking vessels. add some hot water inside the pressure cooker or the cooking vessels. Close the lid and cook for 45Minutes in very low gas flame. or cook inside the cooker until pressure cooker whistle list thrice.
  2. Once all whistle comes Let the vapour of the pressure cooker get released completely naturally. Then open the lid and serve the whole tender coconut with some extra Bengali garam masala powder and Clarified Butter or Ghee from the top of the dish. Serve this dish when it's hot.
  3. I am sure this truly delicious, yummy and flavorful dish would easily take all the attention at the dinner table.Enjoy the dish with your family
  4. Prefer to serve this delicious dish with hot steamed white rice or with any simple Pilaf/Pulao
