As It’s a bit spicy dish I never cook this dish for the night. My family loves this tangy spicy crab curry dish with plain white Rice even my kid also love to eat . Every ingredient of this curry dish add a layer of flavour to the dish and make a wonderful delicious crab curry dish. So don’t just remove any of Ingredients from the list If you want to get an authentic Sri Lankan crab curry dish. Maybe The dish looks so hot and spicy but believes me It will exactly not so hot, It just looks hot. So don’t worry about the spicy ingredient of the dish. Just use them all to make a perfect crab curry. All, the spices will complement each other so the hotness and spiciness will not overpower the taste of the dish.
HOW TO SELECT A PERFECT CRAB FOR A PERFECT CRAB CURRY DISH?
It is so important to choose a fresh Crab to make This curry crab dish. I always use fresh Ingredients for my dish. In my Today’s dish, I use fresh Local Mud crabs from the local fish market and I cooked the crabs immediately to preserve the freshness as much as possible.
If Mud crab is not available in your nearby fish market just use any sea water crabs or blue crabs for today’s dish. You can choose either male or female crab or both. But I experienced female crabs taste good over male crabs. Always just after buying the crab cut and clean them. In the fish market If you see crabs are already dead more than 5 hours or smell very bad, my advice not to buy them.
Actually, If the crabs have been dead for a while, the meat becomes soft, pulpy and tasteless when cooked. If you wish to buy pre-packed frozen crab from the supermarket, then always try your trusted seafood brand. But buy crab fresh from the market is always best for your health, money worthy and It will taste more than the frozen one.

Because this is very easy to make and its all ingredients are easily available in almost any stores. As I told before that this Sri Lankan curry crab dish is not too spicy like it actually tastes. So this dish is so perfect for them who don’t like too much hot and spicy seafood.
But a flavoursome one. The dish is not too hot and spicy. So More than 5 years old Kids can easily eat this crab curry dish. I will recommend you to eat this crab curry with steamed white or brown rice. Then the crab curry will taste awesome.

- 5 Big Crabes Washed and Cleaned
- 1 Big Onion chopped
- 1 Big Tomato chopped
- 5 Cloves of Garlic Chopped
- 2 Big Green chillies deseeded and chopped
- 5 Fresh Curry leaves
- 1/2 Cup Freshly grated coconut
- 1 Tsp Fennel seeds
- 1 Tsp Black Peppercorns
- 1/4 Cup Coconut milk
- 1/2 Tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 Tsp Sri lankan curry powder
- 1 Pinch Sugar
- 1 Tsp Salt or salt as per your taste
- 1 Cup of Hot Water
- 1 Tbsp Coconut oil or any oil of your choice

- Take a pic soup pot.
- Make the pot heat enough over the medium heat.
- Now put 2 tbsp oil into the pot.make the oil hot enough too.
- Once the oil hot enough put chopped onions, curry leaves,chopped garlic cloves,green chillies,tomatoes into the pot and fry all the ingredients for 5 mints over the medium heat.
- Just after 5 mins add crabs and sri lankan curry powder,coconut milk and hot water into the pot mix well .And fry for 10 mins.If required add little water to the cooking pot.In between 10 mins make the roasted curry powder for this recipe.
- Take a frying pan.Make the pan heat then put Freshly grated coconut,Fennel seeds,Black peppercorns and Mustard seeds in to the pan.Now dry Roast all the ingredients for 4-5 mins only.Or you can dry roast all the spices in a microwave.
- When roasting process done blend all the spices into a blender and blend well until its became take a powder like texture.
- After 10 mins add salt sugar and the roasted curry powder to the pot.Mix well and fry for 5 mints.Just after 5 mins sri lankan curry crab recipe will be ready to serve.
- Decorate with curry leaves and Serve this dish with hot steamed rice or bred of your choice.
